How long does fresh juice keep?

By the Hesper team · · 3 min read

A glass bottle of fresh orange juice

Our juice is cold-pressed and never heated, so it keeps for days rather than months. Here's how to get the most out of every bottle.

In the fridge

Keep it at 2–4 °C, at the back of the fridge rather than in the door, where the temperature jumps every time you open it. Unopened, it is best within 5 days of pressing. The date is on the cap.

Once opened

Drink it within 2 days and keep the cap on. Air dulls the flavour faster than time does.

Freezing

Pour out a little first so the juice has room to expand, then freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw it overnight in the fridge and shake well: the pulp separates but the taste comes back. Ice-cube trays work well for smoothies.

How to tell it has turned

  • It fizzes or the cap bulges.
  • It smells sour or a little like wine.
  • It tastes sharp rather than fresh.

If in doubt, pour it away. And if a bottle turns before its date, tell us and we'll replace it.
